Why are social networks so important to teenagers?

Nowdays is normal for our young people to live day by day with the new technologies, wich , considering most of teenagers where born with this science developed, these are no so new to them.
Also the urge of people to be in fashion with the new trends has conditioned our way of life. 
For example, when tv and lanline where out teenagers at the time where also "addicted" to them.
This is something parents have to understand , they also have to put limits to this .Using it as a reward fro good behavior or a punishment in reverse
